Rally to Dismantle Ableism

On Saturday, February 18, starting at 1 p.m., Access(ability) Coalition will
hold a rally to raise awareness about ableism within our society. The event will be free and is open to all ages.

The purpose of the Rally to Dismantle Ableism is to spread awareness and destigmatize issues surrounding differently-able people. We define “differently-able” as anyone that is physically, mentally, or psychologically diverse. This could include physical limitations, such as being in a wheelchair, mental limitations such as autism, and psychological limitations such as any mental health concern, diagnosed or not.

Access(ability) Coalition is a coalition of organizers, organizations, and concerned citizens whose goals are to spread awareness, eliminate the stigmatization of mental health and physical health issues, dismantle ableism, and make our world more accessible for everyone.

As of January 24th, endorsements for the rally include The Daily Planet, Lips Richmond, Mind(ful) Liberation Project, Occupy Richmond, and Pax Christi of Richmond. More individuals and organizations are expected to offer their endorsements before the event.

Speakers at the rally include Susan Sekerke (Advancement Coordinator, The Daily Planet); more speakers to be decided.

DATE & TIME: Saturday, February 18 Ÿ 1 – 4 p.m.
LOCATION: Friends Meeting of Richmond
4500 Kensington Avenue
